After a career in real estate, Mari chose to change career paths: - I started a new degree at the age of 30 and absolutely love it!

Mari Schei Eikbu (30) had a desire to start fresh and wanted to study something in technology, as it is forward-looking. She chose UX design at the Oslo campus.

I switched career paths because I simply didn't feel real estate was entirely me. I wanted to work with something more creative and also future-oriented. UX design is here to stay, and it keeps evolving.

She continues:

I chose Noroff because I had heard a lot of good things about the school from a friend.

UX design is a one-year technology education with a focus on user experience design, available in Oslo and as online studies.

Exciting Projects

The 30-year-old says the Oslo campus is located in a very nice and quiet area. She describes modern and beautiful facilities with large classrooms that allow in a lot of light and many group rooms. Her study routine consists of half-days of teaching and half-days of self-study.

The student environment in the class and with the teacher is very good. My subject teacher is incredibly good; she is pedagogical and has a great enthusiasm for making us better, Mari says.

The UX student shares that she has worked on several exciting and educational projects during her studies. She has been involved in redesigning websites and apps for coffee producers, auction sites, quiz apps, sauna apps, and physiotherapy apps, to name a few. Last year, students worked on an app for new mothers.

I felt that I learned a lot about the Norwegian healthcare system and how mental health affects new parents. It was a great opportunity to help people who may be struggling in that phase of life, she says.

- There is No Shame in Turning Back

Mari's advice to others considering a completely different career path is, first and foremost, to carefully consider if this is something they want.

That being said, there's no shame in changing. If you have a dream or are unsure of what you want to do, I recommend contacting Noroff to have a chat about what might be suitable for you. They offer a broad range of exciting study options. I started a new degree at the age of 30 and absolutely love it!

Where do you hope the road will take you after you finish at Noroff?

I hope I can find a permanent position as a UX designer in Oslo, preferably one that also offers the opportunity to work remotely, she concludes.

Noroff has ongoing admissions, and as long as there are available spots and you qualify, you can secure a study place right up until the start of the semester in August.
