Why study Digital Product Management?

At a time when technology is a key driver of business growth, expertise in digital product management is essential. Norway has long been a resource-based economy, but more and more companies are building strong digital products. Digital product management is about managing the entire lifecycle of a product - from idea to launch and development. You will learn to work closely with development teams, designers, marketers and other departments to ensure that the product meets both technical and business requirements.

The programme provides insight into how to analyse user needs, plan and prioritise features, test prototypes and bring products to market. You will use modern methods such as «lean» and «agile» for rapid adaptation and iteration, and learn how to balance development costs with expected returns. This also requires insight into risk analysis, so that you can prioritize solutions with high returns and low risks.

Why is Digital Product Management so important now?

Norway has a growing market for software and technology development, with more companies focusing on digital solutions. This study will equip you with the skills to lead this development, whether in start-ups or larger established companies. Many digital products, such as Vipps, Netflix and Spotify, depend on continuous innovation to remain competitive. Product management is key to ensuring that products evolve in line with user needs and technological advances.

Upon graduation, you will be qualified for employment as:

  • Product Manager
  • Product Owner
  • Product Analyst
  • Product Developer

Students learn how to develop, launch and manage digital products and services

Programme information

The first semester equips you with basic skills in digital product creation. This includes identifying market gaps and user needs. You'll learn to identify problems, gather user insights and develop them into testable prototypes. Key to this semester is the mastering of visualisation techniques, which are essential for mapping out digital product concepts and user journeys.

The second semester takes these skills further, focusing on practical application in more complex scenarios. You'll learn to run digital product management workshops and strategise future digital projects, including in untapped markets. This will hone your ability to create compelling product propositions.

Each semester involves working on a substantial project with interim submissions. Both semesters conclude with a final submission of the project you have worked on.
