Why study Service Design?

As companies seek to improve their service offerings, the demand for skilled service designers is growing. Throughout this programme you will learn to tailor customer experiences and create innovative service designs. Key areas of focus include user research, journey mapping, service blueprinting and prototyping. You will develop creative thinking and problem solving skills and explore the integration of digital technologies in service design. This will support your understanding of how digital transformation affects customer experience.

The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of customer needs, service strategy and design thinking. Upon completion, you will be equipped to design and implement valuable service solutions in a wide range of sectors.

Programme information

The first semester of the programme provides a practical understanding of principles, methods and introduces tools for creating innovative service designs. You will receive extensive training in identifying user problems that require new solutions, and learn how to gather insights to generate new ideas. Based on ideation, you will develop your skills in creating concepts and prototypes for testing. Visualisation and drawing methods are central to designing services and creating customer journey blueprints.

The second semester builds on this foundation and focuses on applying your skills in more advanced projects. You will learn to plan and facilitate workshops, a key tool for bringing new service designs to life. Writing service proposals and carrying out service planning for future projects is also a key component of this semester.

Each semester involves working on a substantial project with interim submissions. Both semesters conclude with a final submission and assessment of the project you have worked on.
