Online studies make it possible to earn an education remotely – whether you are working, looking to change careers, or need more flexibility in your daily life. Here, you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about online studies at Noroff.

What are online studies?

Online studies are a form of education where you study remotely instead of attending classes physically on campus. Lectures, assignments, and exams are completed online, allowing you to study no matter where you live.

As an online student at Noroff, you gain access to a digital learning environment where you attend lectures, complete assignments, and receive support from lecturers – similar to a traditional study programme, but with greater flexibility.

Is attendance mandatory for online students?

No, there is no mandatory attendance for online studies at Noroff. Lectures, assignments, and exams are all completed online.

At the Higher Vocational College, teaching is module-based. This means you complete one subject at a time before moving on to the next. You choose when to study, but you must meet assignment deadlines to continue to the next module.

At the University College, live lectures are streamed at scheduled times during the week. Guidance sessions are also available where you can ask questions and receive help if needed. All lectures are recorded, allowing you to watch them whenever it suits you.

How do online studies work in practice?

When you study online, you follow your courses through a digital learning platform. Here, you will find lectures, assignments, and study materials.

Your studies will consist of a combination of watching lectures, working on practical assignments, and submitting projects. While you have flexibility in how you structure your time, you must still follow deadlines and progression requirements throughout the programme.

Can online studies be combined with work?

Yes, online studies are well suited for those who want to combine education with work or other commitments. The flexibility allows you to adapt your studies to your own schedule.

At the same time, it is important to dedicate time to studying consistently. Many successful online students create fixed routines for when they study – whether that is during the evenings, weekends, or after work.

Is there a social environment for online students?

As an online student, you become part of a digital class environment, but there are no mandatory physical gatherings. The social aspect therefore depends largely on what each student wants to get out of their study experience.

Many online students connect through digital forums and collaboration, and some also choose to meet in person on their own initiative.

Do you have any tips for managing online studies while working?

As an online student, you can study whenever and wherever you want, but this requires structure and self-discipline.

A good tip is to establish a routine that fits your lifestyle. Consider when you have other commitments and when you are most productive during the day. Some people prefer studying in the evenings and weekends, while others work best later at night.

The most important thing is to study consistently every week. Having a clear structure makes it easier to maintain progress and avoid falling behind.

Are online studies difficult?

Online studies are not necessarily more difficult than traditional studies, but they do require more self-discipline, structure, and motivation.

At Noroff, you have access to lecturers, guidance, and digital learning resources that support you throughout your studies. This means you are never completely on your own, even when studying remotely.

By using the flexibility effectively and working consistently, many students find online studies to be an efficient and accessible way to achieve their educational goals.

Is the quality of online studies as good as campus studies?

The quality of teaching is the same whether you study online or on campus. You receive the same academic content, the same lecturers, and the same diploma upon graduation.

The difference lies in how the teaching is delivered – not in the quality of the education itself.

Can I study from anywhere?

Yes, online studies make it possible to study no matter where you are, as long as you have internet access. This gives you the freedom to pursue an education without relocating or changing your life situation.
