How are AI-based tools used in the Data Analyst programme?

AI-based tools are viewed as valuable supplements that can enhance and accelerate tasks such as data analysis, feature engineering, and model building. While these tools provide significant efficiency gains, it’s important to understand that AI-generated outputs are not always free from errors.

As a data analyst, students are taught to critically evaluate, refine, and adapt AI-generated insights and code to ensure the accuracy of their analyses, robustness of models, and optimality of solutions. AI is seen as a support to their foundational knowledge, allowing them to work more efficiently while maintaining the integrity of their results.

How is AI used in the workplace as a data analyst?

AI is transforming how data analysts work by automating routine tasks like data preprocessing, model tuning, and even generating initial code for algorithms, which accelerates workflows. This allows professionals to focus more on innovative problem-solving and addressing complex analytical challenges.

However, a strong foundational understanding of the field is still crucial, as AI-generated outputs are not always flawless. The first year of this two-year programme is identical to the one-year Data Analysis programme. However, you can apply directly to this two-year programme and secure a place for two years.

Programme information

Learning outcomes

In the first year, you will gain a solid understanding of analytical models and practical implementations using industry tools such as Microsoft Excel and Google Spreadsheets. With this foundation in place, you will be guided through the entire process, from data collection to reporting.

In the second year of the programme, you will develop advanced technical skills. You will become familiar with a range of data analysis tools, handle large data sets and learn to connect to local and external databases.

You will also develop problem solving skills using statistically relevant tools. You will be introduced to advanced data concepts, enabling you to develop solutions to real-world problems in a variety of fields. You will also gain knowledge about the importance of business intelligence, data sustainability and data protection regulations such as GDPR.

Hardware and software

When purchasing a computer, ensure it meets the minimum requirements. This ensures sufficient processing power, storage capacity and memory to handle all required activities, tasks and projects.

Operating system:

Windows 10/11, macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later.
Ensure that you have full administrator rights to install and manage all aspects of the system.

CPU:

For Windows: Intel i5, AMD Ryzen 5 or better
For macOS: M2 or newer

RAM:

Windows minimum: 8GB
macOS minimum: 16GB

If you are using macOS, some software may require virtualisation, as it may not be available for macOS or may have limited features compared to the Windows version. In such cases, a Windows virtual machine would need to be run inside macOS, or an online service providing Windows hosting would be used. External hosting services are not provided as part of the course fees.

Storage:

Minimum: 500GB
Recommended: 1TB

Webcam and microphone:

Students are expected to communicate with staff and fellow students via video and voice calls. It is recommended to use a good quality headset (headphones + microphone).

When you start the program, you will receive information about the specific software you need to use for each course.

Admission requirements

Noroff has ongoing admissions, and applications are processed in the order they are received. The earlier you apply, the earlier you can secure a study place.

To qualify for the program, you must have general study competence or vocational education with a professional certificate. It is also possible to apply based on recognized prior learning.

For international students, depending upon which country you have received your education from, the requirements will differ. Please use this website where you can find the specific requirements for your country at the bottom of the page.

Financing

All our study programs are approved for loans and grants from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen). You can apply to the Loan Fund for basic support (loan and grant; NOK 166.859) and tuition fees (NOK 79,432).

As an adult student, you can receive loans and grants from the State Educational Loan Fund. This also applies if you work while studying.

As a main rule, you must be a Norwegian citizen to receive support from the Norwegian State Educational Fund. However, foreign citizens may also be entitled to financial support. Check here to see if you are eligible.
