From an early age, Daniel Kelland has been driven by a passion for creating. Through 3D design, he discovered a world without limits, where imagination runs free and creativity truly flourishes.

From LEGO and Minecraft to 3D design

When he started the 3D Design and Interactive Media program at Noroff, he had no technical experience with 3D design. Still, the transition felt natural. He draws parallels to his childhood, where his interest in building and gaming laid the foundation for developing his ability to visualize.

A digital learning environment that fits perfectly

When he discovered the opportunity to study online at Noroff, it felt like the right path to take. He has always considered himself self-taught, and the flexible study format made it possible to learn at his own pace without compromising structure or quality.

– I’ve always seen myself as self-taught, and the digital format felt like a natural extension of that approach.

He describes the study format as demanding but highly rewarding. The digital learning environment allows for independence, while the follow-up from teachers ensures that support is always available when needed.

He says that the exam projects have proven to be among the most educational parts of the program. The freedom to define his own projects allows for experimentation and genuine learning.

I can confidently say that I’ve never had more fun during an exam than at Noroff. Daniel Kelland

Theoretical approach and digital community

Although exams can seem challenging, he believes it’s precisely in those demanding situations that one learns the most. For him, it’s the sense of mastery and creative flow that keeps his motivation alive.

Where traditional schools often have a more theoretical focus, he finds that Noroff combines theory and practice in an inspiring way.

– At Noroff, you get straight to the point and immediately start using some of the best tools in the industry.

Even as an online student, he describes a good and supportive learning environment. The teachers are available, engaged, and open to dialogue, and there are many arenas for student interaction.

– The teachers are always available and willing to discuss assignments and submissions.

He highlights weekly Q&A streams, forums, and Discord channels as valuable meeting places and encourages other online students to participate actively to build community and support each other in the learning process.

Building a portfolio for the future

Throughout the program, he has built a solid portfolio, which he describes as his most important career tool. He says that Noroff provides great opportunities to build a portfolio through assignments and projects, which is essential for showcasing one’s skills to future employers.

During his studies, he has developed both technical skills and personal confidence. He describes the journey as a continuous learning process, where structure, patience, and self-discipline have become vital tools.

I’ve become more confident, more structured, and even more curious about the field. Daniel Kelland

Although he looks forward to entering the workforce, he emphasizes the importance of continuing to learn and grow, no matter how far you’ve come.

Advice for new students

At the end, he shares some practical advice for succeeding as a student and staying inspired along the way.

– Ask your teachers, take breaks, and find a framework that works for you. And most importantly: have fun. Experiment!

For him, studying is about more than learning a subject – it’s about discovering new sides of yourself and finding joy in creating something that matters.
