Why Study Interactive Media - Games?

The gaming industry is growing rapidly, and technology has permeated various new sectors. This programme focuses on developing a concept from initial design to the finished product. You will learn to combine creative processes with technology, gaining the ability to design user-friendly interfaces and interactions. You will also acquire expertise in creating 3D assets and coding for both games and films. You will also be able to work on character design and game environments.

The aim of the programme is to prepare you for an immediate entry into the gaming industry. Upon graduation, you will have a portfolio that will position you strongly in the job market.

Programme information

In the first year you will explore the theoretical foundations of visual culture, learning game mechanics, interaction design and communication skills. You will also receive a thorough introduction to the software used in the programme.

The second year focuses on developing skills in methods and processes for designing environments and models. You will also explore coding and interaction physics in game development.

The final year concludes with a bachelor project and provides an opportunity for student exchange.

Hardware and software 

As an online student or OnlinePLUS student, you are responsible for obtaining the necessary equipment. If you study on campus, both hardware and software are available for use.

Necessary equipment:

  • Headphones or headset with a microphone.
  • PC/laptop with the following specifications:
    • Microsoft® Windows® 10 or 11.
    • CPU: 64-bit Intel® or AMD® multi-core processor with SSE4.2 instruction set.
    • GPU: Geforce RTX / GTX or Radeon Pro W (Minimum Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 or Radeon FirePro).
    • RAM: 32 GB RAM (Minimum 16 GB).
    • Storage: 500GB (SSD/NVMe recommended).

Recommended equipment:

  • Wacom Drawing Tablet.
  • 2 monitors or 1 ultra-wide screen.
  • 1 additional storage station (Minimum 1 TB recommended).
  • Webcam.

Necessary software:

You will receive student licenses.

  • Microsoft Office.
  • Autodesk Maya.
  • Substance Painter.
  • Adobe CC / CS6 (or your choice of painting application with layers).
  • zBrush core.

Some programs and training resources may require access to a Windows operating system (either as a host or virtual machine) for optimal functionality.

Noroff has ongoing admissions, and applications are processed in the order they are received. The earlier you apply, the earlier you can secure a study place.

To qualify for the program, you must have general study competence or vocational education with a professional certificate. It is also possible to apply based on recognized prior learning.

All our study programs are approved for loans and grants from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen). You can apply to the Loan Fund for basic support (loan and grant; NOK 137,907) and tuition fees (NOK 74,366).

As an adult student, you can receive loans and grants from the State Educational Loan Fund. This also applies if you work while studying.

As a main rule, you must be a Norwegian citizen to receive support from the Norwegian State Educational Fund. However, foreign citizens may also be entitled to financial support. Check here to see if you are eligible.
