Noroff University College is proud to celebrate a significant milestone: NOKUT has approved the systematic quality assurance efforts.

This recognition confirms Noroff University College's commitment to delivering high-quality education and the dedicated work to continually improve the learning experience for students. This is confirmation of the diligent and serious work with quality at every level. It provides a necessary foundation for the further development of the university college.

The decision was made during a NOKUT board meeting held December 12, 2024. NOKUT’s supervisory report concluded that Noroff University College meets all the requirements set out in applicable laws and regulations. Based on the recommendations of the expert committee and the university college's responses to the committee's evaluations, NOKUT issued the following resolution:

The systematic quality assurance work at Noroff University College is deemed satisfactory: All requirements in the Universities and University College's Act §§ 1-6 and 4-3 (4), the Quality Assurance Regulation § 2-1 (2), and the Study Supervision Regulation § 4-1 have been fulfilled.

The committee highlights the solid efforts made to address the shortcomings in quality work following the initial decision by the NOKUT board.

Strengthened quality culture

Director Anita Karlsen expresse pride in the way staff and students have engaged in developing and anchoring Noroff University College's quality assurance system since the beginning of this process in 2021. She also emphasises the value of collaboration with NOKUT.

- NOKUT’s review has been an essential resource for us, helping to foster a quality culture that is inclusive and robust. This recognition motivates us to continue ensuring that our educational offerings maintain high standards at every level, Karlsen remarks.

Noroff University College has every reason to be proud. They established a dedicated quality team to manage the quality assurance system, while also involving the entire organisation in the process.

– We used the supervisory process to revise and develop our entire quality assurance system. This led to several development projects and actionable measures being defined. The process created awareness, engagement, strong collaboration, and ownership of the quality assurance system throughout the university college. The work has undoubtedly strengthened our quality culture and contributed to ongoing quality development, Karlsen says.

Officially confirmed that the work is approved

In the Spring of 2023, NOKUT conducted a review at Noroff University College, systematically evaluating the quality assurance efforts. It has now been officially announced that the assurance work has been approved, a result that Acting Rector Emlyn Butterfield is very pleased with.

After a long and thorough process, the positive outcome of the supervision is a great relief and joy for everyone who has been involved.

– It’s wonderful to see the positive feedback from the expert committee after the entire organisation worked together to establish a robust quality system. We have every reason to be proud of our quality assurance system and our efforts, but the most important thing is that it provides a solid foundation for high educational quality and supports future development and growth, says Acting Rector Emlyn Butterfield

Facts About NOKUT’s Supervisory Role

NOKUT itself states the following about legally required supervisions:

Norwegian universities and university colleges are required to have a satisfactory system for ensuring the quality of education. The systematic quality work must ensure that institutions maintain and further develop the quality of the education they offer.

Supervision of the systematic quality work at institutions is a legally mandated task for NOKUT, and all universities and colleges must undergo such a review every six to eight years. NOKUT’s work with external quality assurance is grounded in the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the Higher Education Area (ESG 2015).

The goals of the periodic supervision are:

  • To verify that institutions’ systematic quality work meets the requirements of laws and regulations.
  • To stimulate institutions to further develop the quality of their educational offerings through systematic quality work.
  • To provide guidance and feedback, offering institutions input for further development of their quality assurance systems.
