Working as a cyber security engineer: - The knowledge and skills I acquired through my studies at Noroff have proven to be very relevant in my current role.
Hussein Toufayli (23) has completed a bachelor's degree in Cyber Security through Online Studies at Noroff University College. It was his interest in safety and his curiosity about the field that made him choose this particular study programme.
– In a world where technology is constantly evolving, I felt a strong drive towards understanding and protecting the digital infrastructure that is becoming increasingly central to our lives. The choice to study cyber security at Noroff was also driven by the desire to have a career where I could make a difference by protecting data and information from digital threats, he says.
He says that Cyber Security is a dynamic and constantly evolving field that requires both technical expertise and an ability to think creatively.
– It's exciting because it combines technological challenges with being on the frontline of digital defence. Working in this field means constantly learning and adapting to new threats, which makes the work both challenging and rewarding.
Educational and rewarding
After completing his studies at Noroff, Hussein got a job as a cyber security engineer at the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). Here he is responsible for preventing, detecting, managing and restoring normal operations in the event of security incidents. He also works to maintain the overview of digital threats and acts as an advisor on digital security issues.
- My typical tasks are to develop and automate security work and to prepare operational guidelines and routines for IT security. The most exciting thing I've done so far is dealing with real security incidents. Being on the front line and reacting quickly to contain and manage these incidents has been incredibly educational and rewarding.
He secured his job at NRK by showing off the expertise and skills he has acquired through his studies at Noroff.
– I presented practical solutions and demonstrated a solid understanding of security principles during the interview, he says.

Combined work and Online Studies
Hussein finds that the knowledge and skills he has acquired through his studies at Noroff have proven to be very relevant in his current role at NRK.
- The study gave me a deep understanding of strategies and practices to defend against digital threats. This has made me better equipped to deal with real security incidents. I also got a solid foundation to understand and implement cyber security best practices, which is essential in my daily work.
The 23-year-old chose to take the programme online as he was working 80% alongside his studies and therefore needed flexibility. He says that being able to watch recordings of the lectures and customise his studies according to his own schedule was a great advantage.
- Although balancing work and studies was challenging at first, Noroff's structured curriculum helped me develop a good study routine, he explains.
The former Noroff student has a clear message for others who want to follow the same career path.
- My best advice to people who are interested in Cyber Security is to be curious and engaged. Be aware that the field is constantly changing, so continuous learning is key to success. Don't be afraid to challenge yourself and explore different aspects of the security landscape.
