- It was challenging to develop an entire game on my own and manage the entire process myself, but I am proud to have accomplished it entirely on my own.

Simen Løchting has recently completed a bachelor's degree in Interactive Media – Games through online studies. He has garnered significant acclaim for his bachelor project and secured the national award for the best student work at Noroff's award ceremony, The Golden Egg Awards.

Winning The Golden Egg felt incredible, and I was genuinely taken aback. The fact that something I created and invested so much time in has won an award is truly fantastic. It's one of my greatest achievements, and I would like to thank supportive teachers, friends, and family for making this possible, says the satisfied 26-year-old.

The bachelor's degree in Interactive Media – Games is offered on-campus in Kristiansand, through online studies, or Online PLUS.

Managed the Entire Process Independently

Simen's bachelor project is titled A Brewing Escape, a first-person crafting escape room game.

He briefly explains the game:

You have consumed something you shouldn't have at a festival and wake up in the dungeon of a large magical castle. There, you discover clues from other prisoners as you make your way to a large cauldron with access to various recipes. You can find the ingredients needed in the recipes to brew potions that give you new abilities to explore more of the castle and ultimately escape.

A Brewing Escape has been a solo project, challenging Simen to work on aspects of video game production with which he had less prior experience.

It was challenging to develop an entire game on my own and manage all the processes myself, but I am proud to have accomplished it entirely on my own. I believe I could have achieved greater and better quality with a group, but the learning experience I gained alone was invaluable.

- A Fantastic Journey

Simen shares that studying Interactive Media – Games at Noroff has been a fantastic journey. He had previously experienced difficulties in traditional schooling, and this changed when he started at Noroff. He found that a more practical-oriented school was the right choice for him. Studying online has also been more social than the 26-year-old initially thought.

One of the best things about Noroff is the teachers and how supportive and helpful they are.Simen Løchting

One of the best things about Noroff is the teachers and how supportive and helpful they are. The class environment is also very good, and we had, among other things, self-organized game nights. There is a culture of giving feedback to each other's work and asking for help if encountering problems.

I thought studying online wouldn't be particularly social, but it's the opposite. It's a very social program, and since most people are online, there's always someone to talk to.

What would you say to others considering a bachelor's in games?

If you are interested in games and have ever wanted to make a positive change in the gaming industry, then you should apply to Noroff. I had no prior knowledge before starting, and the learning curve was steep initially, but it's not a problem if you are driven and interested in the subject.

Now that Simen has completed his bachelor's degree, he is an active job seeker, already envisioning what his dream job could be. He hopes to secure a position in a game development company where he can continue doing what he loves – creating 3D models.

Seeing my name in the credits of a published game, film, or similar would be a dream come true, he concludes.
