After several years in the workforce as a plumber, Arnor Breki Einarsson decided to pursue a long-time interest: technology and programming.
He chose online studies at Noroff, with the goal of building a new career as a developer. Arnor has long been interested in creating something digital. He chose backend development because he wanted to understand how systems actually work.

Fascinated by what happens “under the hood”
Arnor liked the idea of learning how to build solutions that truly do the work in a digital system. During the program, he has worked on assignments closely connected to real-world tasks: building REST APIs, setting up databases, working with authentication, and exploring cloud solutions such as Azure.
– It’s especially rewarding to understand how data flows through systems, and how frontend and backend connect in a complete solution. When I get things to work after experimenting and solving challenges, I really feel a sense of accomplishment.
Flexibility and mastery
For Arnor, online studies have proven to be a great solution. The flexible study schedule allows him to combine learning with family life, but he admits it requires discipline.
– The teachers are available and supportive through the learning platform and on Teams. Collaboration with fellow students can be a bit challenging online, but if you take initiative, you’ll find good study partners along the way, he says.
He especially appreciates that the assignments are practice-oriented and provide experience with both methodological work and documentation.

From studies to working life
His motivation lies in building something concrete and seeing it work. Several of his assignments have been developed into personal projects, which he collects in a portfolio.
– The assignments and projects have prepared me for what working life can look like. I’m not just learning theory, but also how to work in a structured way and document my process. I think that will be important once I get a job.
The goal after graduation is clear: Arnor wants to work as a backend or full-stack developer and is already applying for relevant positions.
Advice for future students
To others considering IT studies at Noroff, Arnor has a clear message:
– You don’t need a lot of prior knowledge, just the will to learn and dedicate time to it. If you’re curious and motivated, this is a great place to start. It’s absolutely possible to go from zero to building functional solutions you can be proud of.
