A special investigator secures and analyzes digital traces that can help in a criminal case, says Aina (27).

Aina Svendsen recently completed her bachelor's degree in digital forensics. She has now been given a job as a special investigator in the South-West police district.

When I started at Noroff, my dream job was a special investigator in the police. That's what I focused on during the three years I studied. And the first job I got when I finished my studies was my dream job! I still have a lot to learn, but I'm looking forward to starting my new career, says Aina.

She starts her new job on February 5th.

What are you looking forward to the most in the job?

I am looking forward to being able to help analyze digital evidence that can help find the guilty. I also hope to be able to improve and develop new solutions that can make the job more efficient.

What was it like studying a bachelor's degree in digital forensics?

Digital forensics is a very new study, and not many people know what it means. For me it was very exciting. It combined both data and research, which I like very much. I liked almost all the courses we had, but I think the courses where we used tools to find information, programming and databases were the most interesting, says Aina.

Online studies work very well!

What do you think about the professors?

The professors are very kind and knowledgeable. If there was anything we needed help with, they answered very quickly, sometimes even at night.

Why did you choose to take your bachelor's degree via online studies?

The campus is in Kristiansand. I chose online studies so I could study without moving from Stavanger.

How do you think online studies work?

Online studies work very well! Some days I work better than others, so I took advantage of it. I also think the way we were tested, where we had a few weeks to write a paper, works much better than having an exam that only lasts a couple of hours.

What were the challenges with this way of studying?

To distribute the time well enough. Sometimes it was some long evenings to complete the tasks. For some, it may be difficult not to have someone else physically present, such as teachers and fellow students, but for me it went just fine.

Did you get in touch with fellow students?

Yes I did. We worked extensively with projects and helped each other through the study.

We have heard a rumor that you have beaten Magnus Carlsen. Is that right?

I haven't beaten Magnus in regular chess, but I beat him once in something called Bughouse chess. It is a variant where you play two against two and have two levels. When your teammate loses a piece, you can choose to transfer it to your board. We didn't play much regular chess together because he was already so much better than me.

What advice would you give to new students?

Do not wait too long to start your study and bachelor thesis. Time flies by! she says.

We wish Aina good luck in her job as a special investigator.
