In Trondheim, three boys and a girl are working on a major event that will take place in February.

We are sitting here talking to Caroline Gundersen, Erik Hammer, Marius Åslund and Brage Tellebon.

- What happens in February?

- Almost since school started in August, we have been working on the Noroff LAN party, which takes place in February. This is a LAN with 200 participants, and will go on for 48 hours straight. It will be a fun event for youngsters in Trondheim.

- 200 participants? That would require a lot of space? Where is this event taking place?

- Luckily, we collaborate with Kulturenheten i Trondheim kommune. They´ve made Charlottenlund hall, a large sports hall in Trondheim, available for the event. Kulturenheten will also pose with night watchman both nights and with three crew members, working before and during the event. They have reserved 30 seats.

- More than 200 PCs in networks make great demands to fast broadband, good infrastructure, and a lot of technical expertise. How do you solve this?

- We collaborate with EVRY. They pose with IT consultants, switches and technical assistance. They´ve also provided us with access to NTE´s broadband central, to ensure fast Internet connection.

- Wouldn't it be expensive to use EVRY?

- No, they do this for free, they are even sponsoring the event with an additional kr 5000,- Thank you, EVRY!

- There are many things that should be planned in front on such a big event. What is required from you as organizers?

- We must have agreements with the fire department, first aid service, the police, and security guard services during the nights, volunteer fireguards, and partners for food and other services. We've also done a risk analysis, created fire instructions and worked out a budget.

- And how does your budget look like? Will you go bankrupt?

- No! We have a budget in excess of kr 100,000, and plan for a small profit that we can use for the next event.

- Will the event be just about gaming, or have you organized for other activities throughout the 48 hours?

- It’s focused on gaming – and a lot of it! We have planned competitions in the following games:

  • LOL - teamwork for 5 players
  • DOTA 2 team game 5 players
  • Hearthstone - individually
  • CS: GO team game 5 persons

- And for the winners, are there any prizes?

- The winners of teamwork gets kr 10,000 - while the winner of Hearthstone get kr 2000,-. Overall we give prizes for kr 32,000,-. In addition to gaming, the participants get to try Oculus Rift (3D glasses) with Virtuix Omni. This is a hemisphere that lets you control the game by running while playing a 3D action games. PC games have become a fitness exercise!

- Who can sign up for the event?

- We have an age limit of 16 years. Our partner Kulturenheten will be allowed to bring some younger participants. We open for enrollment 2nd January 2015. Unfortunately we can only accommodate 200 participants this time.

- Does Noroff LAN have its own website?

- It will be launched 2nd January.

Thank you for talking to us!

We wish the students in Trondheim good luck with the further preparations for the Noroff LAN party 2015.
