Simon chose to take advantage of Noroff's 2+1 arrangement, which allows him to apply directly to the third year of a bachelor's degree abroad.
Noroff works closely with several international educational institutions. After a two-year vocational school education at Noroff, most of our programs allow you to take advantage of the school's cooperation agreements and apply directly to the third year of international bachelor's degrees. This was something Simon Kjerrgård Aase (31) chose to do after completing his Network and IT Security degree in Bergen.
– Studying in Wales was very successful. The course I chose had no exams, but assignments and reports that had to be submitted. You worked both individually and in groups. It's a great way to demonstrate your knowledge, and you get a feel for what it would be like in the workplace, he says.
There are several different bachelor's degrees to choose from in Wales. Simon chose to do a Bachelor's degree in Applied Cyber Security in the small town of Newport.
– Although it's a small town, it has everything you need in terms of restaurants, bars and parks. "The big cities of Cardiff and Bristol are only half an hour away by train or car, where you'll find more nightlife and restaurants, he says.

The road from academia to industry felt short
Simon now works as a Project Engineer in the technology company ABB, within Cyber Security and Infrastructure. Here he works with data and network security for the oil and gas industry. The 31-year-old chose Noroff because he wanted to attend a vocational school where he could get a more practical approach to the field.
– The path from his education to the industry felt short. You'll probably always need job-specific training, but all the practical skills you've built up along the way have already come in handy in your new job and in the job search process.
The former Noroff student says that he is very happy that he chose to build upon his vocational school education with a year abroad, which provided valuable experience.
– I had little to no prior knowledge of Cyber Security when I started my education, and was therefore unsure of how difficult this was going to be. I decided early on to look at every day of my studies as a normal working day, and worked with school from 8-16 every day. This meant I could take time off every evening and weekend, he says.
– I strongly recommend everyone to take advantage of the 2+1 agreement. The last year abroad secures your bachelor's degree and makes you much stronger when applying forjobs.
