For Hanne Tveit, the transition from studying at Noroff to entering the workforce was a positive experience. Already a month before finishing her Digital Marketing studies at Noroff, Hanne was offered a full-time position.
The first full-time position became a secure start to her professional life. Today, she has worked for three years in what she describes as the most enjoyable job she has had so far, as a Communications Advisor at Hike Kommunikasjon in Stavanger.
– For me, an agency was the right place to start my career. I have gained varied experience and been challenged with different tasks from clients in various industries.
Hanne’s best tips for students
Based on her own experiences, Hanne shares her advice for students who want to enter the workforce quickly:
Start early
Don’t wait until graduation to try out the industry. Take on small projects, try freelance assignments, volunteer roles, or collaborate with fellow students. Just a few weeks into the Digital Marketing program at Noroff, Hanne started a company with two fellow students. This gave her valuable experience to showcase when applying for jobs.
– Every experience counts and makes you more confident when entering the job market.
Be visible
Use social media to show what you can do and what you are good at. Suddenly, someone may notice the content you share and need exactly what you have to offer. Don’t be afraid to show your face. Think of social media as a portfolio that demonstrates your skills.
Engage in your network
Use your study time well. Build relationships with teachers, fellow students, and industry professionals. Your network provides both academic support and opportunities you might not otherwise have. Attend guest lectures, workshops, and career days, and take the chance to ask questions whenever you can.
Practical experience
Summer jobs and internships at a company or agency are incredibly valuable. You gain insight into working life, real-world experience, and strong advantages when applying for a full-time job. Not only do you gain experience – you also build a network and get to know people in the industry. These contacts can be crucial when applying for internships or full-time positions.
– You gain insight into working life and practical experience that provide great value when applying for a full-time job.
Interest and motivation
Hanne emphasizes that having genuine interest and motivation is important. Reflect on what it means to you. This is an exciting industry to work in, with a fast pace at times and a field that is constantly evolving.
– Landing your first job is just the beginning of an exciting career.
