Please contact us at Denne e-postadressen er beskyttet mot programmer som samler e-postadresser. Du må aktivere javaskript for å kunne se den. before end of March the year you wish to start. If we're past March already, or even later, please do contact us anyway :)

STEP 1! First of all, if you intend to apply, send a message to Denne e-postadressen er beskyttet mot programmer som samler e-postadresser. Du må aktivere javaskript for å kunne se den.! That way, you will be registered with the Noroff agent. The Noroff agent provides you with an English version of the Noroff certificate, and schedules the interview with the Teesside representative. The agent will also help you if you have any question. As a Noroff student you should put NOROFF as "agent" on the application form, if there is such a form field (forms tends to change :).
It might be a good idea to join this Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/noroff2teesside/ to meet other applicants and current and former students.

Interviews

Teesside does interviews with the 3D applicants. Graphic design students does not need an interview, but should provide a portfolio.

You will get a message of when to meet for the interview.
Interviews for 3D students are most often done in one of the Noroff schools.

Do I need studiekompetanse to study at Teesside?

It's not a requirement from Teesside. But to get financial funding from Lånekassen, you need to fulfill several requirements. One of this requirements are studiekompetanse. Lånekassen can make exceptions, if you are over 25 years old and have what's called realkompetanse. Please visit Lånekassen's homepage for further information about studying abroad. If you have loan in Lånekassen, and are going to finance your further studies on your own, i.e without financial support from Lånekassen, remember to inform Lånekassen that you still is a student. if not, your loan will increase due to the interest rate, and you will be asked to pay back.

If you have a vitnemål fra videregående skole (secondary high school), they should be able to give you an English diploma. Ask for it early in the application process, some schools are known to use a long time to get it translated.

How about my English skills?

For Noroff students that are also Norwegian citizens the following applies...

  • Teesside do not ask to see English certificates/qualifications for applicants applying to any courses in games/animation
  • at interview Teesside will advise students if we think they are likely to have a problem with language
  • when students arrive at Teesside and enrol on their course they will be asked to take a short test of English competence
  • if the English test shows weaknesses in some areas (speech, writing, comprehension, etc) we will ask students to attend some language classes for the first few weeks of their course (in addition to their other modules)
  • Teesside provide optional/drop-in language support throughout the course for any students who feel they need help

If you are not a Norwegian citizen, please check out Teesside´s page for English Language Support.

Application process

Frequently Asked Questions about applying

Several students have asked what the buzz word is. This is a question you might get on the application form. If you get this question, you have selected the wrong option in the previous step. The question "How are you applying?" should be answered "As an individual".
Choose as an individual on this question
Under the Education section of the UCAS form, you are to put in your school and qualifications. Here´s a little movie that shows how easy you can do that (mov).

The application process

Choose school: The courses at Teesside is run at different schools, and the application process differs a little between the schools. Please use the process that applies to your chosen course.

Start by register yourself to the Noroff agent by sending an email to Denne e-postadressen er beskyttet mot programmer som samler e-postadresser. Du må aktivere javaskript for å kunne se den., and tell when you're planning to go to Teesside. By registering you will get your English Noroff certificate, and we will be able to see you through the application process. We will also put you on a list, and call you for an interview held by Teesside staff during spring/early summer. If you want to attend the interview at another Noroff campus than where you are/were studying, please let us know.

Depending on the number of applicants, the interview can be made at a Noroff campus or by phone/Skype.

In front of the interview

For the 3D courses, please make yourself a portfolio of the best computer based and hand-drawn work. Character based work is always good to see, but not essential for all courses. The interviewers want to see the best of your creative work on the computer and hand-drawn. It doesn´t matter if it is digital, online or printed - but prepare it, so you don´t have to look through hundreds of folders to find pictures. You could for instance burn a disc with your digital work, animations etc that you're going to present at the interview.

When the interview date closes up, you will get a date/time when to visit your preferred Noroff campus. The interview is held at a Noroff campus by Teesside staff. Remember to bring your portfolio! After the interview you will get an advice on which course you should apply for.

When done with the interview, you send an email to an address given to your of the interviewer. You will then receive information on where and how to fill in the online application form.

Common mistakes when applying to Lånekassen for financial support

When you apply to Lånekassen, do not choose the option that says something like "utdanningen inngår i en norsk grad". You get your degree from the University, not from Noroff. You've received your prior education from Noroff, and the University has evaluated Noroff programs to be of such a high standard that 2 year Noroff Diploma graduates can start directly at year three.

So, when applying to Lånekassen, do NOT say that the degree is part of a Norwegian education/degree.

What does a year at Teesside cost?

http://www.tees.ac.uk/sections/international/fees.cfm provides a list of the prices. Norwegian students normally receive the International scholarship mentioned on that page.

Do I need to have complete Noroff certificates (completed your studies) before starting at the university?

Yes, you do. You can apply, but you'll probably get a hard time explaining why you show up without your Noroff certificates if you say you have completed a Noroff course :)

Accomodation information

If you need a place to live (which I persume you do) you can find this link . useful: http://www.tees.ac.uk/sections/accommodation/.

One of the pages states:

International students who are due to start a course at Teesside in September, are guaranteed a place in University accommodation. The Accommodation Office will help to arrange somewhere for you to live in University-owned or University-managed accommodation.

Please do not wait for someone to contact you, contact the university and tell them you need a place to stay.

One accomodation provider, Linthorpe 248, has made a web page especially design for Noroff students: http://www.linthorpe248.co.uk/noroff.html. Note that Noroff has nothing to do with this service, we just provide the link.
