Mr. Ruan Koen is originally from the Cyber Security unit at a ‘Big Four’ audit firm where he performed IT and cyber security audits and consulting. During this time, Mr. Koen took responsibility for client deliverables & fieldwork, training of junior staff and managing client engagements; gaining invaluable industry experience and insight into operational cyber risk. He has held the ISACA Certified Information Systems Auditor certification since 2019 and obtained the Certified Information Security Manager certification in 2022.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
Mr. Ruan Koen’s research interests are largely in the area of information and cyber security, including cyber audit and compliance, with the aim to enhance an organization’s understanding of cyber risk and improve security. Other key areas of interest are IT resilience, business continuity, IT risk and operational technology security.
CONSULTANCY, COMMERICAL WORK AND INDUSTRIAL CONNECTIONS
Mr. Ruan Koen, with his former industry experience, have performed cyber security and IT audit and consulting services for large listed companies in South Africa. These include private and state enterprises within the Financial, Insurance, Food & Beverage and Retail sectors.
