Do I need studiekompetanse to study at Teesside?

  1. It's not a requirement from Teesside. But to get financial funding from Lånekassen, you need to fulfill several requirements. One of the requirements is studiekompetanse. Lånekassen can make exceptions, if you are over 25 years old and have what's called realkompetanse. Please visit Lånekassens homepage for further information.

If you have loan in Lånekassen, and are going to finance your further studies on your own, i.e without financial support from Lånekassen, remember to inform Lånekassen that you still is a student. if not, your loan will increase due to the interest rate, and you will be asked to pay back.
Also, if you have videregående skole (secondary high school), they should be able to give you an English diploma. Ask for it early in the application process, some schools are known to use a long time to get it translated.

  2. How about my English skills?
For Noroff students the following applies...
    - we do not ask to see English certificates/qualifications for applicants applying to any courses in games/animation
    - at interview we will advise students if we think they are likely to have a problem with language
    - when students arrive at Teesside and enrol on their course they will be asked to take a short test of English competence
    - if the English test shows weaknesses in some areas (speech, writing, comprehension, etc) we will ask students to attend some language classes for the first few weeks of their course (in addition to their other modules)
    - we provide optional/drop-in language support throughout the course for any students who feel they need help
  3. Application process
The courses at Teesside is run at different schools, and the application process differs a little between the schools. Please use the process that applies to your chosen course.

The application process differs slightly depending on which school you apply for. Please follow the process according to your course wish:

    10. It is very important that you bring along your original papers when you're going to England.
  4. Common mistakes when applying to Lånekassen for financial support
When you apply to Lånekassen, do not choose the option that says something like "utdanningen inngår i en norsk grad".

You get your degree from the University, not from Noroff. You've received your prior education from Noroff, and the University has evaluated Noroff programs to be of such a high standard that 2 year Noroff Diploma graduates can start directly at year three.

So, when applying to Lånekassen, do NOT say that the degree is part of a Norwegian education/degree.
  5. What does a year at Teesside cost?
http://www.tees.ac.uk/sections/international/fees.cfm provides a list of the prices. Norwegian students normally receive the International scholarship mentioned on that page.
  6. Do I need to have complete Noroff certificates (completed your studies) before starting at the university?
Yes, you do. You can apply, but you'll probably get a hard time explaining why you show up without your Noroff certificates if you say you have completed a Noroff course :)
