1. Do I need studiekompetanse to study at Glamorgan?

It's not a requirement from Glamorgan. But to get financial funding from Lånekassen, you need to fulfill several requirements. One of this requirements are studiekompetanse. Lånekassen can make exceptions, if you are over 25 years old and have what's called realkompetanse. Please visit Lånekassen's homepage for further information about studying abroad.
Please check out this article if relevant: Mangler du generell studiekompentanse?

If you have loan in Lånekassen, and are going to finance your further studies on your own, i.e without financial support from Lånekassen, remember to inform Lånekassen that you still is a student. if not, your loan will increase due to the interest rate, and you will be asked to pay back.

2. How about my English skills?

If you have an English grade from videregående skole that is 4 or better, you're safe. See the details of demands here: http://international.glam.ac.uk/apply/.
Your videregående skole will - most likely - be able to give you an English diploma, but ask for it early in the application process, the schools are known to use a long time to get it translated.

If you don't have an English grade from videregående skole that is 4 or better, you can take an English Language test. You can go for a TOEFL or an IELTS test. You will find some valuable information here: The British Council. You'll find even more information regarding the IELTS- and TOEFL-tests on Folkeuniversitetet homepage and probably on the ANSA homepage, or Google.

You´ll find more about the requirements for Norwegian students here: http://international.glam.ac.uk/country/norway/en/

3. Which course should I apply for?

If you are a Network and IT Security student:

  • BSc (Hons) degree in Network Management and Security, or
  • BSc (Hons) Network Security for International Students

If you are a Sound and Music Production student:

  • BSc [Hons] Music Technology, or
  • BSc [Hons] Sound Technology

If you have another Noroff degree, we do not have an 2+1 agreement on any other Glamorgan courses.

Costs

http://money.glam.ac.uk/international/finances/
Note: A Bachelor's degree is an undergraduate study. If you do Master´s degree, it´s postgraduate.
On this page you will find links to other pages that tell you a lot about costs, fees, how to pay, when to pay, etc.

Important!!!!

You have to pay half of the course fee before you are allowed to enrol. So, make sure you do this before you arrive/apply for visa.
If you are paying by bankers’ draft, include some identifying details, so that Glamorgan knows what it relates to when the fee arrives; Name, Course and Personal ID number (found on the offer letter) would be ideal.

Make sure you apply to Lånekassen as soon as possible, so that you have the finances ready to pay on time.

DO NOT FORGET!!!!!

Common mistakes when applying to Lånekassen for financial support

When you apply to Lånekassen, do not choose the option that says something like "utdanningen inngår i en norsk grad".

You get your degree from the University, not from Noroff. You've received your prior education from Noroff, and the University has evaluated Noroff programs to be of such a high standard that 2 year Noroff Diploma graduates can start directly at year three.

So, when applying to Lånekassen, do NOT say that the degree is part of a Norwegian education/degree.

Some other sites that could be good starting points for your search:

Do I need to have complete Noroff certificates (completed your studies) before starting at the university?

Yes, you do. You can apply, but you'll probably get a hard time explaining why you show up without your Noroff certificates.

Frequently/Rarely Asked Questions

What is my IRO number?
The IRO number is the International Recruitment Number, it is a unique identifier in the International Office Database of applicants. It should be on your offer letter. The International Office would like you to include this number when communication with them, so that they can easily find you in their database. If you haven't received this number yet, you'd probably hasn't received an offer letter either.

What is a "buzz word"?
If you come across a form field to fill in that refers to a "buzz word", you are applying via the UCAS system. You are not supposed to do that, unless you are a UK-citizen. See the information above on how to apply.

What is a "referee" that is asked for in the application form, and how do I get one?
A referee is a person who knows you and your academic and other relevant skills. He/she writes a note to the university that you need to upload as a pdf in the application form.
You get a referee by asking such a person if they could be willing to do so. Check out the application form to see the terms may apply, such as the fact that the referee can´t be in your family.
